IS NAJIB’S REGIME THE ISRAELI FAKE ACCOUNT FACTORY? – asks PKR’s Fazly

DOES the flood of fake accounts spewing political propaganda on social media owe its existence to Najib Razak’s ties to Israeli cybersecurity operative Senpai?

These are among the pertinent questions that former Prime Minister Najib needs to answer following the controversial revelations by Israeli financial daily Calcalist, according to Parti Keadilan Rakyat Petaling Jaya Utara activist Fazly Razally.

“We have to be clear that these are not allegations against Najib brought up in the Tel Aviv court, but they are documentary evidence based on the business records of Senpai following legal disputes between its shareholders. Thus, they are facts that show Najib’s regime did in fact engage in business with the Israeli firm,” said Fazly, the political secretary to PKR vice president Xavier Jayakumar.

He raised the alarm over the system being used to spy on civilians, political activists and opposition parties prior to the 2018 general elections which Najib’s Barisan Nasional lost.

“This is an automated data mining system based on an avatar, which includes the use of fake social media accounts to interact with targets,” said Fazly.

“The Israeli court was told that the RogueEye system from Senpai was engaged by Najib’s regime through the Prime Minister’s Department (PMO), the Special Branch (SB), the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police to monitor activities of civilians, political activists and opposition ahead of GE14,” said Fazly.

The first agreement signed in April 2018 was valued at US$1.5 million (RM6.5 million) under the codename “Project Magnum”, while the second phase involved sums of US$300,000-400,000 (RM1.3-1.7 million) from the special branch, between US$2 million (RM8.7 million) and US$2.5 million (RM10.9 million) from the PMO, between US$800,000 (RM3.5 million) and US$2.2 million (RM9.6 million) from the MACC and another RM9.6 million from the police.

The deals were signed through a Cypriot intermediary, as Malaysia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel.

“I am curious to know if the thousands if not hundreds of thousands of comments and postings in support of Najib and his allies, including insults and derogatory comments towards the opposition through fake social media accounts all along, were generated by this Israeli system?” asked Fazly.

Cybertrooper boss Najib Razak

“The court was also told that the system continued to be engaged, with altered objectives following Umno’s defeat in the 2018 elections.

“Thus it would also be interesting to find out whether all the racial and religious propaganda and hate speech generated by a mass of fake accounts on social media since then, are also linked to this automated system,” said Fazly.

“It is quite interesting to note, that Najib and his regime, who have always accused Pakatan Harapan and in particular DAP of engaging cybertroopers to defame them, have actually themselves engaged in hi-tech cybertroopers which utilise an Israeli system. The people should take note of this and be aware,” said Fazly.
