AS follow up to our earlier flash, reports have surfaced with the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) confirming that a top cycling official, believed to be the absolute top dog in the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) is in their custody.
The official, according to Malaysiakini’s report, was collected at his home in Semabok, Melaka before being brought to the Melaka Magistrates Court in Ayer Keroh for a four day remand order to be obtained.
The suspect, believed to be a male in his late 70s, is alleged to have abused power in awarding contracts under the cycling federation to his family members, while there are also contracts alleged to have been awarded to his own company.
MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Azam Baki confirmed the arrest and said the remand order for the suspect is until February 2.
He said the suspect is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act for abuse of power.
