SEVERAL reports cite Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today stating it would be up to the Pakatan Harapan presidential council to decide on whether he should remain in the post to his intended duration.

This comes in the wake of an evident escalation of calls for him to hand over the reigns to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in May, marking two years since the Pakatan Harapan government was formed on May 9, 2018.

Calls were heightened last night with four PKR lawmakers – Selayang MP William Leong, Subang MP Wong Chen, Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Tanjung Malim MP Chang Lih Kang , and academician Prof Dr Tajuddin Rasdi holding a forum in Kuala Lumpur, to drive home the narrative of a May 10 handover date.

Dr Mahathir had previously set the APEC Summit to be hosted by Malaysia in November as his final public engagement as Prime Minister, although the matter has caused division even within either political blocs with calls for him to remain full term being matched by calls for him to step down sooner, while there are is also a significant number agreeing to the APEC Summit deadline.
